Let’s face it . . . wedding planning can be one of the most exciting seasons of your life, and it can also be one of the most stressful! So, we wanted to explore unique ways to help our brides rest, relax, refresh and renew while tackling all the decisions and pressures of embracing their new title of Bride-To-Be.
One of the great things available to wedding couples now, is ESSENTIAL OILS. And with so many options to choose from, it can get overwhelming to even know where to begin. And because the last thing you need is another area to have to make decisions, we’ve decided to go directly to one of our Amore Brides who uses essential oils on a daily basis, to see which blends are her favorite and that help her to navigate the road of wedding planning in a life-giving stress-free way.
Payton Peterson is an Amore Lux Studios Bride, and we are so honored to be photographing her wedding to Evan Wilcox, at Redeemed Farm (Scandia MN) this coming summer. Take a look at her interview with us, on essential oils, and how she uses them during this time of wedding planning.
How long have you been using essential oils, and what initially piqued your interest in using them in your everyday life?
I have been using oils for 2 years now! It started as a Christmas gift of oils and a diffuser bracelet! [which I love! Diffuser bracelets are SO stinking cute & help you smell oils allllll day!] I had viewed oils online and knew people who really used them and loved them. I originally started looking into oils because I wanted my house to smell good - can’t blame me! I wanted to be able to have custom scents versus just buying a candle that smelled like Christmas cookies, and then having to buy another candle that smelled like summer breeze. With oils, I can create any blend/mood/environment I want! [also never knew all of the amazing health benefits that I would get from oils . . . until now!] I downloaded the Think Dirty app and started checking products I was using and it scared me how many HARSH chemicals I was surrounding myself with.

What should a bride look for when purchasing essential oils?
100% therapeutic grade is good to look for! When choosing an essential oil company, the biggest thing to look for is their transparency. Oils are not regulated by the FDA so when you see essential oils at Target or Walmart, etc. that say 100% pure . . . it is NOT true!!! It can be 1% real clean oil and the rest filled with fragrance and chemicals. I have chosen to use DoTERRA brand essential oils, because it has a ‘Source To You Promise’ where they ensure that the oils they are producing are safe and clean. DoTERRA is there every step of the way during the process of getting, creating, and distilling an oil and then they do over 60 tests to ensure the quality. [amazing!] They work with farmers and distillers of all of the oils around the world, doTERRA gets their oils from places around the world where they originate and belong, they don’t try to grow oils somewhere that oil doesn’t grow. [I appreciate that!!! Have you ever had a fruit grown from a state that the fruit isn’t supposed to grow in? It just doesn’t taste the same.] Also, something you should look for when buying oils is does the company disclose everything to you? DoTERRA has a site where you can check ALL of your oils that you have. Each essential oil bottle has a quality ID number on it that you can type in online to see all of that oils test results. How do you use essential oils as a Bride that is planning her wedding, and in everyday life?
Alllll the lavender because wedding planning requires lots of SLEEEEP! That is in our diffuser every night and we are loving it. I also use a lot of frankincense because it is such a grounding oil. It helps me stay in control of my mood and emotions. When things in our wedding planning get crazy, we lean on frankincense to remind us that we are in this together and no matter how our wedding day turns out . . . we get to marry each other! Bergamot and orange are really fresh and create a calm mood, I like diffusing that blend when filling out forms or answering wedding emails. Peppermint and orange together wake me up & help me stay focused to get all of the planning done! & OnGuard from doTERRA to help me/us stay healthy!!!! Especially around our wedding date I plan to use OnGuard like crazy so I 100% don’t get sick for our big day & honeymoon!
I could go on forever! However, a a few more ways I use essential oils . . .
· Lavender for relaxation and sleep.
· doTERRA OnGuard for immune/cleaning support.
· Peppermint for headaches.
· Orange/Lemon/Lime for my water. Natural detox.
· Eucalyptus diluted with fractionated coconut oil on my chest for respiratory support, also dropped in the shower to wake up
· Rosemary/Lavender/Cedarwood in my shampoo for healthy hair and hair growth.
· Clary Sage for that time of the month support. Cramps/Hormones.
· Peppermint & Orange diffusing in the bathroom while I get ready to wake me up & focus for the day

Which Diffuser Do You Like Best?
Pictured Above, I have one from doTERRA that I got from ordering my starter kit it’s called the Brevi Stone Diffuser and I love it, it’s so cute!
I love this diffuser ^^ because I like the way the mist shoots outward instead of straight up. I think it fills the room better. The light options are pretty & it’s 500mL so it holds a lot of water & oils! I don’t have to refill it as much.
· FRANKINCENSE on my face in the morning and night to help with skin support and healthy looking skin. Lavender on my feet for sleep support. OnGuard blend on my feet in the morning for an immunity boost
· LEMON in my water as a natural detox
· ROLLER BOTTLES!!!! For all of the things.. I have rollers made for happy mood, anxiety, sore muscles, sleep, stress, motivation, wake up, focus, courage
· DIFFUSER… all day long. (using an essential oil diffuser) makes my house smell amazing, inviting, relaxing, homey, motivating..etc. They even make car diffusers for your drive to work. J
· COOKING Recently tried a drop of oregano on my noodles…YUM.
· Wrists, bottoms of my feet, back of my neck for all of the support in immunity boost, anxiety, focus.
Has your Groom (Evan) found essential oils to be beneficial for his own use? If so, which blends does he find the most comforting and useful?
Yes!!! He always asks what we are diffusing. He specifically asks for citrus blends because . . . delish! (Citrus Bliss by doTERRA) They are refreshing and wake us up! Evan likes to use eucalyptus in the shower (just put a drop on the ground or in the corner) It really helps to wake you up, helps clear your head and chest as well. He loves doTERRA’s Deep Blue blend, it’s a muscle relaxing blend. He asks for the roller after every time we go to the gym. He loves putting wild orange in his ice water. He loves woodsy oils in the winter for creating a warm environment in our house! He likes spruces and firs.

Even More Ways To Use Essential Oils
Yes! You can put oils on your skin (for a massage) using a carrier oil! I use fractionated coconut oil. It’s just coconut oil that stays in a liquid form. I love using lavender for stress relief, it’s the most amazing oil. You can drop oils into your bath and smell and gain the benefits that way. Oils for a bath I would use would be clary sage, orange, lavender, sandalwood. Create a roller bottle. My stress roller has lavender, frankincense and peppermint in it. Topped off with fractionated coconut oil. You can definitely cook with oils! Oregano on your pasta, cinnamon in your tea or hot cocoa. Peppermint in your hot cocoa. Lemon in your blueberry muffins.. I could go on and on!
Your Favorite Combinations For After Workout Care
The best is Deep Blue by doTERRA! It’s amazing and works so well. It’s a blend of Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus. This oil is great for a massage but also great for after workout.
Your Favorite Combinations For Flu & Sickness Relief
OnGuard by doTERRA! Smells amazing and has an entire product line! Cleaners, toothpaste, mouthwash, laundry soap, oil, hand sanitizer, etc. It’s a blend of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. Your Favorite Combinations For Relaxation
After a long day, I put lavender and cedarwood in my diffuser for relaxation before sleep and then it gives me sleep support. doTERRA Balance blend is really good for balancing out mood and emotions. This oil makes me feel balanced in my everyday emotions and helps me stay grounded. It is a blend of Spruce Leaf, Ho Wood Leaf, Frankincense Resin, Blue Tansy Flower, Blue Chamomile Flower, and Osmanthus Flower. I have a roller of balance and wild orange. I love the musky Balance paired with the fresh orange. It’s calming and soothing to my mind and body.
